FAQ's
What visa types will you accept?
We will accept applications from foreign nationals on the following visas:
- Health & Care Worker
- Skilled Worker.
- Global Talent.
- Pre-settlement.
- Family visa.
- UK Ancestry.
- British National Overseas.
- Tier 2 (if granted before 1st Dec 2020).
- Dependant (as a joint applicant).
- Spousal/partner (as a joint applicant).
- Armed forces exemption.
There is no requirement for these applicants to have been in the UK for a minimum period, or for applicants to have a minimum term remaining on the visa.
Visas can either be verified by providing the Share Code (Home Office Service) or with a copy of the visa and accompanying letter.
Which countries and nationalities will you accept applicants from?
All nationalities and countries will be considered but there may be some enhanced due diligence required with the application.
Can I buy a house in the UK if I am not a British citizen?
Yes, absolutely. You do not need to be a British citizen to secure a mortgage. Lenders will look closely at your right to reside in the UK, your visa status, and how much time remains on your visa. A larger deposit is often required, but there are plenty of options available.
What type of visa do I need to get a UK mortgage?
We help clients on a wide variety of visas, including Skilled Worker Visas, BNO Visas, Spousal Visas, and Tier 2 Visas. The exact lending criteria will depend on your specific visa type and how long you have lived and worked in the UK.
Do I need a UK credit history to apply?
A UK credit footprint is highly beneficial, and we always advise setting up UK bank accounts and utility bills as soon as possible. If you have no UK credit history, the pool of lenders shrinks, but we still have specialist banking partners who understand international profiles.
Will a lender accept a deposit sent from an overseas bank account?
Yes, but the lender’s anti-money laundering checks will be rigorous. You will need a clear paper trail showing exactly where the money originated and how it was accumulated. We help you prepare this documentation upfront to prevent delays with the lender. Call our specialist team today to discuss your exact financial setup in complete confidence.
Do I have to be living in the UK at the time of application?
Products are for residential purchase or remortgage only. For foreign nationals we require the customer to be already in the UK. For returning expats, customers may begin an application from overseas but must be in the UK by the time we issue the mortgage offer.
Are interest rates higher for foreign nationals?
Not necessarily. If you have been in the UK for several years, have a good credit score, and a healthy deposit, you will often have access to the exact same interest rates as a UK citizen. If your situation is more complex, specialist lenders might charge a slightly higher rate. Call our specialist team today to discuss your exact financial setup in complete confidence.
